The path to clinical research success with Professor Judith Finn

The path to clinical research success with Professor Judith Finn
11.04.2023

Professor Judith Finn, a John Curtin Distinguished Professor at Curtin University and Director of the Prehospital, Resuscitation and Emergency Care Research Unit (PRECRU) in the Curtin School of Nursing, shared insights from her career in research at the April Food for Thought Seminar.

With an international profile in resuscitation science, Professor Finn has a background as a clinical epidemiologist and is a member of the Australian Resuscitation Council, as well as having a long-standing affiliation with the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR). She currently holds a NHMRC Leadership Fellowship, investigating strategies to improve outcomes after cardiac arrest.

Professor Finn's talk, titled "The path to clinical research success – a moving feast?" drew on examples from her own research career and experience on a number of grant review panels, as she considered what has and hasn't changed in defining and determining research success over the last 25 years.

Professor Finn's connection with the RPH Research Foundation dates back to 2000 when she was the first nurse to receive a grant from the Foundation. Since then, she has held teaching and research appointments at the University of Western Australia before relocating to Curtin University in 2013. In her current role, she has led a successful program of prehospital and emergency research in conjunction with St John WA and local, national and international clinician collaborators.

A recording of Professor Finn's talk is available to view online, offering insights to those in the research community looking to develop their own career paths.
