Bryant Stokes Oration 2025

The highlight of the 2025 Research Awards Day was the Bryant Stokes Oration, which was delivered by Professor Fiona Wood AO, on "The Quest for Scarless Healing."

The Bryant Stokes Oration is named in honour of the RPH Research Foundation’s inaugural Chair, Professor Bryant Stokes AO AM. Professor Stokes has championed excellence in clinical practice, medical research, and improved public health care in Western Australia.

Professor Fiona Wood AO, University of Western Australia Medical School, is a Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon specialising in the field of burn care, trauma and scar reconstruction.

As Director of the Burns Service of Western Australia since 1991, she is a consultant surgeon at both the South Metropolitan Health Service, Fiona Stanley Hospital and the Child and Adolescent Health Service, Perth Childrenʼs Hospital.

As Director of the Burns Injury Research Unit at UWA, she leads an interdisciplinary team with broad collaborations focused on the translation of science and technology to improve clinical outcomes.

She was Australian of the Year in 2005, and sits on a number of boards including the Royal Flying Doctor Service, supports research and innovation across the health sector and is a mother of six.
