Updates in Virtual Care Research

The RPH Research Foundation is proud to support the Health in a Virtual Environment (HIVE) service and some of the important research being conducted through HIVE.

Since 2020, the East Metropolitan Health Service has been pioneering the use of continuous remote monitoring for high-risk patients through the HIVE service.

HIVE is an innovative service that is transforming patient care by enabling around-the-clock vital sign monitoring for high-risk patients. In the first two and a half years of implementation, over 7,500 patients have collectively received more than 300,000 hours of continuous vital sign monitoring. This unique service has allowed opportunities to conduct clinical and economic research that can drive future improvements in care delivery.

At the RPH Research Foundation’s November Food for Thought Seminar, Dr Kevin Trentino and Dr Tim Bowles shared their latest publications and insights into the ongoing research conducted through HIVE. Their presentation, titled “Updates in Virtual Care Research” focused on the potential of virtual care to improve patient safety and healthcare delivery.

Dr Bowles, an Intensive Care Specialist at Royal Perth Hospital and medical Head of Department for the HIVE service provided an overview of the potential of HIVE to address healthcare challenges.

Dr Trentino, a senior healthcare analyst working with the Community and Virtual Care team at East Metropolitan Health Service, shared some of the current and upcoming research projects and publications under the HIVE service.

Through their work with HIVE, Dr Trentino and Dr Bowles are at the forefront of advancing virtual care research in Western Australia. Their presentation shares some of the research projects the Foundation is supporting and how by leveraging HIVE’s capabilities we can improve patient outcomes.
