$1.5 Million to boost RPH Research Foundation’s health and medical research facilities

The RPH Research Foundation has received $1.5 Million in funding thanks to a new scheme announced by the Cook Government.

The RPH Research Foundation owns and operates a 5,000sqm research facility located on the Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) campus. Designed as a dedicated research space alongside WA’s oldest tertiary hospital, it facilitates translational research for the benefit of WA patients.

The building was completed in 1993 and comprises a combination of wet and dry laboratories (including PC2 laboratories), office space and clinical trial facilities. Our PC2 laboratories require capital investment to refurbish the existing infrastructure to ensure they are compliant and encompass best-practice design.

With matched funding from the inaugural Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund Enabling Scheme the Foundation will construct new OGTR-Certified PC2 Laboratories.

This $3 million project will bolster the Foundation’s work with researchers from across WA including the University of Western Australia, Edith Cowen University, Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research and East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS).

As the primary laboratory space for EMHS researchers, this facility refurbishment will support bench-to-bedside research and provide the best outcomes for WA patients.

Medical Research Minister, the Honourable Stephen Dawson MLC said “The Cook Government's successful FHRI Fund targets funding to support local medical research organisations and position WA as a global leader in research and innovation.

"By improving the health and prosperity of all Western Australians, it also provides an opportunity to diversify our economy, create jobs and improve the sustainability of our health system,” said Minister Dawson.

“This is a win-win for the WA community and medical research in the State."
