Statistics service available for researchers
Did you know that RPH Research Foundation provides free biostatistical support for East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) researchers and projects to help support the design of your projects and assistance with reporting.
The support is provided by biostatisticians based at The Kids Research Institute Australia.
When:
Onsite: Royal Perth Hospital on Thursdays and every second Friday in the Innovation Hub.
Via Teams: Any weekday for researchers in any EMHS hospital.
Click here to arrange support and check eligibility.
Support includes:
-
Discuss your study’s aims and research questions, outcome variables, target and sample population, sample sizes, and contributions needed to finalise your study protocol.
-
Assistance with writing (e.g. ethics, grant applications) to ensure clarity of aims and research questions, comprehensive description of study design and statistical analysis plans, performance of power calculations, and assistance with budget.
-
Documented code to assist with complex variable creation, implementation of data coding rules, joining of multiple data sets, and/or conversion of data set types.
-
Complete execution of analysis plans on collected data, including statistical model fitting with guided interpretation. Assistance with finalising results into report ready tables and figures.
-
Review and provide tracked changed feedback on manuscripts under submission.
The Team
The team includes manager Dr Matt Cooper, Dr Elizabeth McKinnon, Dr Robin Cook, Haileab Wolde, Wes Billingham and Warren Raymond.
Haileab Wolde visits RPH every Thursday and every second Friday, but can change dates to fit in with researchers.
You can find him in the Innovation Hub at RPH on Wellington Street or the Research & Innovation Centre at 56 Murray Street, or via Teams.
Matt and Haileab work together closely to match research projects to the biostatistician with the most relevant knowledge, experience and availability to fit the researcher’s needs.
Haileab has a strong mathematical background which grew into a passion for using data and statistical methods to address real-world health care and public health problems.
During his PhD studies, he worked in the consultative medical research space, collaborating with researchers and clinicians across a range of health projects and says he “greatly enjoys” contributing to this area.
From a research viewpoint, he has a background in infectious disease epidemiology, completing his PhD in mapping of tuberculosis in sub-Saharan Africa.
He invites researchers to state their case simply, rather than overcomplicating it.
“Some researchers start the conversation with a really technical problem and they dive right into wanting to use an advanced model for their research when something simpler may work,” he said.
