Since 2023, Royal Perth Hospital has been home to an ultra-low-field (ULF) point-of-care MRI system known as The Swoop. This groundbreaking technology is the world’s only FDA-cleared portable brain MRI.

The National Hypertension Taskforce, led by the Australian Cardiovascular Alliance and Hypertension Australia, has now published a Roadmap to improve Australia’s blood pressure control rates from the current 32% to 70% by 2030. Achieving this target will make Australia a global leader in blood pressure management.

RPH Research Foundation’s Career Advancement Fellow, Dr Catherine Bondonno has been awarded more than $679,000 under the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Ideas Grant.

A project led by RPH Research Foundation’s fellow Professor Anne-Marie Hill that aims to reduce hospital fall injuries and assist recovery in older people has received more than $1.4 million in Federal funding.

RPH Research Foundation funding is being used to help fund ground-breaking research at the Ear Science Institute of Australia. The “HearCog” trial is a two-year randomised control trial of hearing loss and dementia and is now well underway.

At the end of 2023, members of the Royal Perth Hospital Nursing Research Foundation (NRF) voted unanimously to wind up and join the RPH Research Foundation.

The highlight of the 2023 Research Symposium and Awards Day was the Bryant Stokes Oration, which was delivered by Dr Norman Swan AM, on the importance of "Communicating Science in Tough Times."

Emeritus Professor Lawrie Beilin has been involved with the RPH Research Foundation since its inception. During his involvement, he has served as Chair of the RPH Research Foundation Board and continues to serve as an Advisor to the Board.

The Mentorship Award recognises those senior researchers who have been nominated by their mentees for their dedication to helping them through their research journey. The 2023 Mentorship Award was awarded to Professor Michael Leahy.
