Thank you for joining us at the RPH Research Foundation's Research Symposium and Awards Day 2022 where we celebrated the brightest minds of WA.

Thank you to all who attended the RPH Research Foundation's Research Symposium and Awards Day 2022 where we celebrated the brightest minds of WA.

The event was opened by RPH Research Foundation Board Chair Professor Lyn Beazley AO and was attended by the Honourable Stephen Dawson MLC, Minister for Emergency Services; Innovation and ICT; Medical Research; Volunteering.
 
We also had the privilege of hearing Liz MacLeod, Chief Executive of the East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS), share with us an overview of research in the EMHS.

The Bryant Stokes Oration, highlight of the event, was delivered by Professor Daniel Fatovich, Director of Research at Royal Perth Hospital, on the topic The challenges of emergency care research.

Our thanks also to Dr Lesley Bennett, Executive Director at RPH, for delivering the closing address.

Top medical researchers in the Early, Mid, and Postgraduate researcher categories submitted their abstracts in September to be in the running for the top prize of $1,200. After careful considerations, the judging panel picked the top 3 researchers from each category to give presentations on their research on the day.

The inaugural winner of the Early-Career Researcher Best Publication Award:

Dr Marc Sim on "Abdominal aortic calcification on lateral spine images captured during bone density testing and late-life dementia risk in older women: A prospective cohort study", which was published here.

Mentorship Award

The Mentorship Award this year was shared by Associate Professor Donna Taylor and Professor Gerald Watts for their efforts in supporting early career researchers.


Bryant Stokes Oration

The highlight of the Research Symposium and Awards Day was the Bryant Stokes Oration. This year, the oration was delivered by Professor Daniel Fatovich, Director of Research at Royal Perth Hospital, on the topic The challenges of emergency care research.
