Professor David Playford
Professor nd Head of Cardiology, The University of Notre Dame
Research Overview
Professor Playford is the founder and principal investigator of the National Echo Database of Australia, containing over 2 million echocardiographic investigations on over 1.45 million Australians, with linkage to mortality outcomes. With NEDA, Professor Playford has had the privilege of leading a large number of major international publications that have now been recognised as paradigm-changing in areas such as valvular heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, systolic heart failure and diastolic dysfunction.
Professor Playford and his team have discovered new thresholds of mortality risk that has prompted clinical trials and other research that explores how they can help save more patient’s lives in the setting of heart disease.
An important area of Professor Playford's work has involved the development of artificial intelligence to predict individuals at increased risk of developing heart disease and death. The RPH Research Foundation is proud to be able to fund part of Professor Playford's AI work.
